PlotA teenage girl named Bella Swan moves to the rainy town of Forks, Washington to live with her father after her mother remarries. At her new high school, she is fascinated by a group of siblings who are all adopted by Dr. Carlisle Cullen and his wife. Among them, Edward Cullen stands out with his otherworldly looks and standoffish behavior. Despite a rocky first interaction, Bella becomes increasingly drawn to Edward, sensing there is something different about him and his family.
As Bella and Edward grow closer, she discovers that he and his family are vampires. Though they have chosen a lifestyle that abstains from human blood, their existence is fraught with challenges and moral dilemmas. Edward's struggle to stay away from Bella, for fear of harming her, is overcome by their intense attraction to each other. However, Bella's understanding of the supernatural world deepens, and she learns about the risks involved in being close to Edward, especially when others of his kind do not share his self-restraint.
