PlotAfter the great war that divided the continent of Telesis into North and South, society begins to rebuild amidst the lingering scars of conflict. Violet Evergarden, a former child soldier turned Auto Memory Doll—an occupation specialized in transcribing people's thoughts and feelings into letters—continues her journey of self-discovery and healing. Haunted by her past on the battlefield and the final words of her beloved commander, Violet strives to understand the meaning of those words and her true feelings. Her work as a Doll takes her on various assignments where she aids others in expressing their emotions, helping them to move on from their own turmoil and loss.
Amidst her interactions, Violet hears a rumor about a new technology that could allow her to speak with the loved ones of the deceased. She is also tasked with writing letters for a terminally ill boy, whose time is running out. Throughout these experiences, she confronts her emotions and the impact of loss on the human heart. Violet's journey is one of personal growth as she connects with others through the power of words, seeking to bring closure and hope in a changing world. Meanwhile, her own unresolved past and quest to understand love and empathy become central to her evolution as an individual beyond the shadows of her previous life as a tool of war.
