PlotHelena, still reeling from her recent divorce from Alfie, seeks comfort in fortune-telling and spiritual guidance, hoping to find some meaning or destiny in her disrupted life. Alfie, meanwhile, suffers a late-life crisis, leading him to leave Helena, pursue his lost youth, and ultimately marry a much younger woman, Charmaine. These drastic life changes for the aging couple set a foundation for their respective journeys of self-discovery and their desperate grasps for happiness.
Their daughter Sally and her husband Roy are trapped in their own dissatisfactions and marital strains. Sally slugs through her job at an art gallery, aspiring for more, and developing a crush on her boss, Greg. Roy, a one-book wonder struggling to repeat his literary success, becomes infatuated with the enigmatic Dia, a new neighbor, which further complicates his stalled career and fraying marriage. Each character, entangled in their personal illusions and quests for unfulfilled dreams, grapples with the realities of their lives as they strive to find meaning and love amidst their various delusions.
