PlotLoretta Sage, a reclusive romance novelist, has spent her career writing about exotic places in her popular adventure books, featuring a handsome cover model named Alan, who has dedicated his life to embodying the hero character, Dash. Loretta's work and personal life are colored by her grief over her archaeologist husband's death. At the launch event of her new book, Loretta expresses her disillusionment with writing and her lack of interest in the story's supposed lost city treasure, causing frustration for both her publicist and Alan, who depends on the novels for his livelihood.
During the book tour, Loretta is kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire, Abigail Fairfax, who believes that she can lead him to the ancient lost city's treasure featured in her latest novel. Alan witnesses her abduction and, fueled by heroism, sets off to rescue her, believing himself to be as capable as the character he portrays. He employs the aid of Jack Trainer, a former Navy SEAL turned CIA operative, to help locate and save Loretta. Meanwhile, as they journey through the jungle, Loretta and Alan become unwilling partners, finding themselves embroiled in a hazardous adventure that pushes them to their limits and forces them to work together to survive.
