PlotTwo former backup soul singers, Louis and Floyd, who haven't spoken in years, are brought together after the death of the famous lead singer of their old group, Marcus Hooks. The pair travel across the country to perform a tribute at the Apollo Theater in Harlem for their late band leader. Along the way, their journey is riddled with comedic mishaps and disagreements, showcasing their clashing personalities and highlighting the unresolved issues that led to their fallout. As they make their way to New York, they are forced to confront the past, their aging, and the prospects of their future careers, all while navigating the challenges of reconnecting after such a long time apart.
Upon their trip, they encounter Cleo, a young singing talent who has ties to their musical past, adding complexity to their journey and forcing the duo to re-evaluate their own lives and careers. This unexpected companion not only challenges their perceptions but also becomes a catalyst for their reconciliation and personal growth. As they continue their road trip, they must overcome obstacles both external and internal, dealing with the realities of their deteriorated friendship and the music industry that has moved on without them. This drive to the Apollo becomes more than just a physical trip; it's a deep dive into their souls, offering them a chance at redemption and a final shot at regaining their lost fame.
