Extraordinary Measures
Director: Tom Vaughan
Actors: Brendan Fraser, Keri Russell, Harrison Ford
PlotJohn Crowley is a successful corporate executive who finds his stable life upended when two of his young children are diagnosed with Pompe disease, a severe and typically fatal genetic disorder. With conventional medical treatments offering little hope, Crowley's desperation to find a cure for his children's condition drives him to seek out unconventional options. This quest leads him into the realm of medical research and biotechnology, where he hopes to find a researcher capable of developing a groundbreaking treatment.
In his relentless pursuit, Crowley partners with Dr. Robert Stonehill, a brilliant but unconventional scientist who has developed a promising but untested theory for treating Pompe disease. Together, they face numerous challenges, including skepticism from the medical community, the daunting task of raising the necessary funding, and navigating the complex bureaucracy of the pharmaceutical industry. As they work against the clock, their partnership is tested by their differing personalities and the pressures of their shared mission. Amidst these trials, the duo's drive to push the boundaries of medical science reflects a deep, personal stake: the chance to save lives, including those of Crowley's children.
