The House of the Devil
Director: Ti West
Actors: Jocelin Donahue, Tom Noonan, Mary Woronov
PlotSet in the 1980s, a cash-strapped college student, Samantha Hughes, is desperate for a way to pay her rent and responds to a strange babysitting flyer. The job promises significant pay for a single night's work, which Samantha finds too good to pass up. Upon meeting the oddly intense Mr. Ulman and his eerie wife, she learns that the job isn’t quite what she expected. Instead of caring for a child, she is told she will be looking after Mrs. Ulman’s ailing mother-in-law. Despite her friend Megan's concerns about the situation, the promise of easy money convinces Samantha to stay.
The evening unfolds with Samantha alone in the secluded, Victorian mansion as Mr. and Mrs. Ulman leave for a lunar eclipse event. Strange noises and occurrences begin to unnerve Samantha, and she explores the large house to distract herself. Her discomfort grows as she encounters a series of unsettling discoveries that suggest the Ulmans may not be the benign employers they presented themselves to be. With the night growing darker and the house's sinister secrets starting to emerge, Samantha realizes her initial misgivings may be far more justified than she could have imagined.
