The story begins with the former Vermont Highway Patrol officers, who have been fired for their previous antics, getting a chance at redemption when a border dispute arises between the United States and Canada. They are called back into duty to oversee the transition of a French-speaking Canadian town into the United States' jurisdiction. As they reacquaint themselves with law enforcement, the group faces a series of misadventures and cultural misunderstandings with the local populace. Their usual pranks and unorthodox policing techniques, however, do not sit well with the new citizens or the rival Canadian Mounties.

As they navigate their new assignment, the officers uncover suspicious activities that suggest foul play in the area, which complicates their task of maintaining order. Amidst the chaos, they must also prove their worth to their former boss, Governor Jessman, and to themselves. The plot builds up with comedic confrontations and escalating tensions between both sides of the border, leaving the fate of the group and their mission hanging in the balance.
