Lowriders
Director: Ricardo de Montreuil, Rupert Wyatt
Actors: Gabriel Chavarria, Demián Bichir, Theo Rossi
PlotSet in the vibrant East L.A. lowrider community, the story centers on a young street artist, Danny, caught between the world of his father, Miguel, a traditional lowrider mechanic, and his estranged brother, Francisco, also known as 'Ghost,' who has recently been released from prison. Danny aspires to express himself through his graffiti art but faces disapproval from his father, who sees lowriding not just as a hobby but as a cultural legacy to be preserved and respected. Miguel is trying to keep his family intact and steer both of his sons away from the streets and the troubles that come with them. However, the return of Ghost brings unresolved tensions to the surface, challenging the fragile bonds within the family.
As the annual East L.A. Classic lowrider competition approaches, the story delves into the internal and external struggles faced by Danny. Caught between loyalty to his family and the desire to forge his own path, Danny finds himself at a crossroads. The tensions between tradition and personal expression, familial obligation and individual aspiration, are explored against the backdrop of the lowrider culture, known for its richly customized vehicles that are as much a piece of art as a means of transport. The competition serves as a focal point, highlighting the clash of generations and values, as well as the transformative power of creativity and the enduring importance of family.
