PlotAdele Wheeler, a reclusive single mother suffering from depression, and her 13-year-old son, Henry, live a quiet life in a small town. One fateful day during Labor Day weekend, they encounter Frank Chambers, an escaped convict who coerces them into sheltering him from the authorities. Despite his menacing appearance, Frank gradually reveals a gentler side, showing kindness and care towards both Adele and Henry. Over the course of the weekend, a bond forms among the three, as Frank provides the companionship and support that Adele desperately needs, while also teaching Henry valuable life lessons.
As the weekend progresses, Adele and Frank develop an unexpected romantic connection, further complicating their already precarious situation. Frank opens up about his past, sharing his history and the circumstances that led to his imprisonment, compelling Adele and Henry to reevaluate their perceptions of him. Tension mounts as the police intensify their search for Frank, forcing Adele to make difficult decisions to protect the man she has come to care for. The dynamic among the trio transforms profoundly as they navigate moments of trust, vulnerability, and hope, culminating in pivotal events that will redefine their lives forever.
