PlotIn the wake of an animal rights activism raid that accidentally unleashes a highly contagious virus, London falls into chaos as the infection rapidly spreads, leaving the city desolate and its inhabitants turned into aggressive, mindless carriers known as "the Infected." Four weeks after the initial outbreak, Jim, a bicycle courier, awakens from a coma in an abandoned hospital. He walks out into a seemingly deserted London, struggling to grasp the eerie silence and the destruction that meets his eyes. As he searches for signs of life, he is soon confronted by the horrifying reality of the aggressive infected populace.
Jim narrowly escapes an attack by the Infected and is rescued by two survivors, Selena and Mark, who educate him on the rules of survival in this new world: the key is to keep moving and remain vigilant at all times. The trio make their way through the desolation, scavenging for supplies and always staying on guard against the ubiquitous threat of the Infected. They eventually encounter a distress signal broadcast from an apartment block, leading them to Frank and his daughter Hannah. This new alliance provides a glimpse of hope as they share information about a possible safe haven - a military encampment outside the city, promising protection and the chance of a cure to the survivors brave enough to seek it.
