PlotA young, reclusive author named Calvin, who achieved phenomenal success early in his career, now grapples with writer's block and struggles to find meaningful relationships. Encouraged by his psychiatrist to write about someone who likes his dog just the way it is, Calvin whimsically creates a character named Ruby, a vibrant and spirited young woman, who embodies his ideal partner. Pouring his loneliness and desire for connection into his typewriter, he crafts a narrative featuring Ruby, falling in love with the character he's created but understanding that she is a figment of his imagination.
Unexpectedly, Calvin's life takes a surreal turn when he awakens to find Ruby, his fictional character, flesh and blood in his apartment, believing she is his girlfriend. Though initially convinced he is losing his sanity, Calvin accepts Ruby's realness, bringing joy and spontaneity back into his life. Faced with the inexplicable reality of Ruby's existence, he hides the truth of her origins from everyone, including his family, and discovers that he has the power to influence both her personality and their relationship through his writing.
