Carnival of Souls
Director: Herk Harvey
Actors: Candace Hilligoss, Frances Feist, Sidney Berger
PlotAfter a traumatic car accident involving a drag race that results in her vehicle plunging into a river, a young woman named Mary miraculously emerges as the sole survivor. Shaken but physically unharmed, she attempts to leave this harrowing event behind by relocating to a new town in Utah, where she has accepted a job as a church organist. As she tries to settle into her new routine, she is haunted by the traumatic memories of the accident and an inexplicable draw towards an abandoned carnival pavilion located outside of town.
Mary's fresh start is marred by a series of unsettling experiences: she is periodically beset by chilling visions of a ghoulish man who seems to be following her, and at times, she finds herself in a terrifying state where she becomes invisible and inaudible to the rest of the world. As her sense of reality starts to fragment, the pull of the dilapidated carnival grows stronger. The locals, including a concerned boarding house owner and a lecherous neighbor, note her odd behavior but are unable to penetrate the wall of isolation she has built around herself. Despite these concerning signs, Mary is determined to understand the connection between her survival, these spectral encounters, and the allure of the eerie, forsaken carnival.
