PlotJeff Bauman, a 27-year-old, working-class Boston man, is eager to win back his ex-girlfriend, Erin, who is running in the 2013 Boston Marathon. In an effort to show his support and prove his commitment, Jeff waits for her at the finish line with a homemade sign. However, his life changes in an instant when two bombs explode, causing him to lose both of his legs in the terrorist attack. In the aftermath, Jeff is heralded as a symbol of hope and resilience across the country, but he grapples with his new reality and the overwhelming pressure of the expectations placed upon him.
As he embarks on a long and challenging road to physical and emotional recovery, Jeff struggles with the demands of his newfound fame and the complex relationships in his life, including the strains it places on his relationship with Erin and his family. The film poignantly explores themes of heroism, identity, and the human spirit's capability to overcome adversity. Jeff's journey highlights the internal battle he faces while adjusting to his new life and the pursuit of finding personal strength in the face of unimaginable trauma.
