Sam Childers, a former biker and drug addict, undergoes a dramatic transformation after being released from prison and attending church with his wife, Lynn. Struggling to leave his violent past behind, Sam finds purpose in Christianity and eventually travels to Sudan, where he witnesses horrific atrocities committed by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) against children. Deeply moved, Sam resolves to help the children by building an orphanage in a war-torn region, despite the immense danger and resistance from local warlords. Back in the United States, Sam's newfound mission strains his personal life, putting pressure on his marriage and finances.
