PlotScott Voss, a disillusioned high school biology teacher, becomes motivated to save the school’s underfunded extracurricular programs after learning that budget cuts will eliminate the music department, led by his friend Marty Streb. Determined to raise the necessary funds, Scott explores various options, ultimately deciding to become a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, despite his lack of experience and advancing age. As Scott trains and fights in various matches, he earns the support of Marty and school nurse Bella Flores, who also becomes a significant figure in his personal journey.
Scott's unconventional efforts draw the attention of his students and colleagues, reigniting a sense of community within the school. His participation in MMA not only aims to raise the required money to save the music program but also rekindles his passion for teaching. Along the way, Scott faces numerous challenges both in and out of the ring, from skeptical administrators to tough physical opponents, all while striving to achieve his goal. As he builds unexpected friendships and rediscovering his own potential, the stakes become increasingly higher, leading to a suspenseful buildup toward the final resolution of his mission.
