Cal Jamison, a psychologist who relocates to New York City with his young son Chris after the sudden death of his wife, gets drawn into a disturbing series of events. He befriends a police detective, Lt. McTaggert, who introduces him to a case involving ritualistic child murders. As Cal delves deeper into his new life and tries to heal after his tragedy, he discovers that the gruesome murders are linked to practices rooted in Santeria, a syncretic religion combining elements of Roman Catholicism and African tribal rituals. His professional interest in the case quickly turns personal when Chris's safety becomes a concern, raising the stakes dramatically.
