Oz the Great and Powerful
Director: Sam Raimi
Actors: James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz
PlotA small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, Oscar Diggs, is swept away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz. He thinks he's hit the jackpot, with fame and fortune now within his reach—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora, Evanora, and Glinda, who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must discover who is good and who is evil before it's too late. He puts his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity, and even a bit of wizardry, transforming himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well.
Thrown into this fantastical land, he encounters various creatures and characters, some who become true friends and allies. As he embarks on his journey to restore order to Oz, his moral compass is tested, and he must choose between a prophesied destiny of greatness or his hitherto selfish pursuits. The evolving challenges push him to realize that his newfound role in this enchanted world comes with responsibilities that are far more significant and daunting than he ever imagined when he first arrived amidst spectacle and illusion.

Oz the Great and Powerful is technically impressive with superb video and audio quality on Blu-ray, but lacks the original's charm and magic, making it a decent yet unremarkable prequel.
