In a seedy 1890s New York City nightclub, sultry singer Lady Lou works for owner Gus Jordan. Lou is romantically involved with Gus, unaware of his illicit activities, including a counterfeiting ring and exploitation of young women. She charms all the men around her, earning their devotion and stirring up jealousy among the women. The suave Captain Cummings, who runs a nearby mission, visits the club, appearing to show only disdain for Lou’s lifestyle. However, there's more beneath his stern exterior.
