Table for Five
Director: Robert Lieberman
Actors: Jon Voight, Richard Crenna, Marie-Christine Barrault
PlotA divorced father, striving to reconnect with his three children, embarks on a luxurious Mediterranean cruise. The trip is intended as a means to mend their strained relationships and offer the kids an adventure of a lifetime. Each child, carrying their distinct personalities and grievances against their father's past actions, approaches the voyage with mixed feelings. The youngest is excited yet naive; the middle child harbors deep-seated resentment; and the eldest is skeptical but longing for a semblance of family unity. Their father, aware of his past failings and the precious little time he has to make amends, is determined to use this opportunity to rebuild the bonds that his absence and actions have damaged.
As the cruise progresses, the family experiences a series of events that range from joyous to challenging, each serving as a test to their fragile reconnections. The father's efforts to engage with his children and create lasting memories are met with varying degrees of acceptance and resistance. This dynamic sets the stage for personal growth and deepens their understanding of one another. The picturesque backdrop of the Mediterranean provides a serene yet poignant setting for their journey of reconciliation, with each port of call offering new insights and opportunities for healing. Through shared experiences and confronting unresolved issues, they start to navigate the complexities of their relationships, laying down the groundwork for a future that acknowledges the past but looks forward to new beginnings.
