Promising Young Woman
Director: Emerald Fennell
Actors: Carey Mulligan, Bo Burnham, Alison Brie
PlotA young woman, Cassie, leads a double life. By day, she is a seemingly aimless and sarcastic barista living with her concerned parents. By night, she engages in a clandestine campaign to address past traumas. Cassie's mission is driven by a tragic event in her past, involving her best friend Nina. She frequents nightclubs pretending to be severely inebriated, allowing men to take her to their homes under the guise of concern. However, when they attempt to take advantage of her apparent vulnerability, she confronts them with sobriety and sharp rebuke, aiming to teach them a lesson about consent and predatory behavior.
As her quest for retribution continues, Cassie reunites with a former classmate, sparking an unexpected romantic relationship. This new connection begins to steer her life in a different direction, offering an alternative to her nocturnal pursuits. But the memories and unresolved grief for her lost friend, and the quest for justice on her behalf, are powerful forces. As she moves forward, Cassie must confront whether she can forgive, seek redemption, or if her path has set her toward an unavoidable and darker resolution.
