Maniac
Director: Franck Khalfoun
Actors: Elijah Wood, Nora Arnezeder, America Olivo
PlotA withdrawn and mentally unstable man named Frank struggles with severe social anxiety and a traumatic past that haunts him. He operates a mannequin restoration business, a trade he inherited from his mother, who was an artist before she died. Frank's life is a solitary one, filled with memories of his mother's overbearing love and the pain he associates with her loss. His inability to connect with people leads him to seek companionship through the mannequins he meticulously restores, treating them as if they are real people. His mental state continuously deteriorates, evoking a darker side where he is driven by a gruesome compulsion to kill.
Frank's darkness manifests in a series of brutal murders, targeting women he encounters on the streets of Los Angeles. His violent urges are a twisted attempt to silence the agonizing noise in his head, stemming from his childhood trauma and his mother's past actions. Each victim becomes part of his eerie collection, further fueling his delusional relationship with the mannequins. In this terrifying descent, Frank crosses paths with a young artist named Anna, who takes an interest in his mannequin work. A friendship begins to form, offering Frank a glimmer of normalcy and potential redemption. As his connection with Anna grows, so does the struggle within him, between his yearning for human connection and the monstrous compulsions that he can barely control.
