PlotBrilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange suffers a car accident that leaves his hands permanently damaged, effectively ending his surgical career. Desperate to regain his former abilities, Strange exhausts all available medical options without success. His relentless quest for healing leads him to Kamar-Taj, a secretive enclave in Kathmandu, Nepal, rumored to possess unconventional healing powers. There, he meets the Ancient One, a powerful sorcerer who reveals to him the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. Skeptical at first, Strange begins his tutelage under the Ancient One, learning to harness mystical energy and to manipulate time and space.
As Strange's knowledge and power grow, he is drawn into a conflict against dark forces seeking to undermine the fabric of reality. He discovers the existence of the Sanctums, key structures that protect the Earth from extradimensional threats. Alongside fellow sorcerer Mordo and the enigmatic librarian Wong, Dr. Strange must accept his new role in a wider world of mysticism and defend the planet from those who would unravel the laws of nature. His personal quest for redemption thus transforms into a battle to preserve the balance between the visible world and the unseen realms beyond human comprehension.
