Disobedience
Director: Sebastián Lelio
Actors: Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams, Alessandro Nivola
PlotA woman returns to her Orthodox Jewish community in London after the death of her estranged rabbi father, from whom she has been alienated following a scandal. Her arrival ignites controversy among the close-knit, traditional congregation, especially given her past rebelliousness and the reasons for her departure years earlier. The woman's homecoming is met with a range of reactions, from judgment to cautious welcome, as members of the community grapple with their own feelings about her, the legacy of her father, and the implications of her return.
As she reintegrates into the community, she rekindles a complex and deeply felt connection with her childhood friend, who is now the wife of a rising star in the synagogue. Their relationship evolves and intensifies, challenging the boundaries of faith and sexuality that have been ingrained in them since birth. The reunion threatens to unravel both women's lives, placing them at the crossroads between personal desire and communal obligation. Their secret bond becomes a silent act of rebellion, as they confront the future and the possibility of freedom within the constraints of their conservative world.
