In the desert town of Sand Rock, Arizona, amateur astronomer John Putnam and schoolteacher Ellen Fields witness a meteorite crashing nearby. Putnam, intrigued by the occurrence, investigates the impact site and is astonished to discover not a simple meteorite, but a spacecraft of unknown origin half-buried in the sandy terrain.
