In a city plagued by crime and protected by a superhero, Captain Amazing, a trio of inept self-styled superheroes struggles to earn respect and recognition despite their well-meaning efforts. Mr. Furious, whose power comes from his boundless rage, the Shoveler, who wields a shovel as his weapon of justice, and the Blue Raja, a turbaned hero who flings cutlery with precision, find themselves mostly ignored or laughed at by the citizens they pledge to protect. When Captain Amazing, more interested in his corporate sponsorships than heroics, engineers the release of a supervillain to boost his public image, his plan backfires, leading to his capture.

Facing an unprecedented threat without their champion, the city seems doomed. In an attempt to step up and fill the void left by Captain Amazing, the trio decides to recruit new members into their team. They set out to find other overlooked and unconventional heroes to bolster their ranks. Each candidate is more peculiar than the last, including the Bowler, who carries her father's skull in a bowling ball; the Spleen, whose power is his potent flatulence; and Invisible Boy, who claims he can vanish, but only when no one is watching. Together, these underdog heroes must overcome their inadequacies and mutual distrust to form a team capable of facing the looming threat.
