The Wiz
Director: Sidney Lumet
Actors: Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell
PlotA shy, 24-year-old New York City schoolteacher finds herself magically transported to a whimsical version of the city, transformed into a fantastical land called Oz following a snowstorm. Distraught and desperate to return home, she is advised to follow the Yellow Brick Road to reach the enigmatic Wiz, who has the power to grant her wish. Along her journey to the Emerald City, she befriends a Scarecrow lacking a brain, a Tin Man absent a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who sorely needs courage. Each of them, longing for something they lack, decides to accompany her in the hope that the Wiz will fulfill their desires as well.
As they traverse the Yellow Brick Road, the group encounters various obstacles that challenge their resolve, including menacing creatures and a subway controlled by evil minions. They must rely on their friendship, wits, and the guidance of a mysterious good witch to navigate the dangers of this surreal version of New York. Each companion's quest for what they're missing becomes an introspective journey, confronting personal insecurities and learning to appreciate their own worth. Together, they persevere through the ordeals, drawing closer to their ultimate goal: an audience with the all-powerful Wiz, the only one who can make their wishes come true.

A disappointing film that halted Ross' career, with only a few charming songs and dance segments to its name.
