PlotPete and Ellie Wagner, a married couple, decide to start a family and explore the possibility of adoption. They attend foster care orientation and are quickly enamored with the idea of adopting a child. Instead of just one, they end up choosing to foster three siblings: rebellious teenager Lizzy, her aggressive younger brother Juan, and spirited little sister Lita. The couple finds themselves overwhelmed by the chaos and challenges of fostering three kids, especially given Lizzy's initial resistance.
As Pete and Ellie navigate their new roles, they struggle to bond with the children while confronting various hurdles, including Lizzy's loyalty to her biological mother. Despite the emotional rollercoaster and numerous setbacks, Pete and Ellie gradually develop a deeper connection with the siblings. Their journey is filled with moments of frustration, heartache, and unexpected joy, painting a nuanced picture of the complexities involved in forming a family through adoption.
