Band of Outsiders
Director: Jean-Luc Godard
Actors: Anna Karina, Claude Brasseur, Danièle Girard
PlotIn suburban Paris, two aimless young men, Franz and Arthur, who fancy themselves as tough gangsters, befriend Odile, an impressionable and naive young woman that they both develop an affection for. Odile studies English at a language class, where she casually mentions to Franz that there is a large sum of money hidden in the villa where she lives with her aunt and a wealthy gentleman Monsieur Stolz. As the trio becomes entwined in a web of infatuation and youthful restlessness, the conversation about the stash of cash lingers in the air, planting the seed for a daring plan.
Motivated by their fantasies of living as outlaws and influenced by the crime stories they idolize, Franz, Arthur, and Odile concoct a plot to steal the money. Their interactions are marked by the rituals of the pop culture they consume, with references to Hollywood films and a whimsical, distinct style of their own that reflects the youthful rebellion of the time. They spend their days preparing for the heist, while their relationship dynamics shift and evolve, oscillating between camaraderie and rivalry as tensions begin to rise. The three outsiders practice and daydream about their impending escapade, barely grasping the potential consequences of their actions as they inch closer to crossing the line from fantasy into reality.
