PlotA young boy named Conor struggles to cope with his mother’s terminal illness, bullying at school, and a distant relationship with his strict grandmother. Conor’s life is further complicated by recurring nightmares that reveal his deep-seated fears and anxieties. One night, a monster in the form of a giant, talking yew tree comes to visit Conor. The tree informs him that it will tell him three stories, after which Conor must tell his own story, the truth he is hiding within himself.
As the yew tree shares its tales, each story reveals complex themes of human nature, justice, and the ambiguity of good and evil. These fantastical tales intertwine with Conor's reality, offering him moments of reflection amidst his turbulent life. At school, Conor faces relentless bullying while at home, his mother’s condition worsens, putting more strain on his fragile emotional state. Amidst these personal battles, Conor's interactions with the monster begin to illuminate his inner turmoil, guiding him toward confronting his deepest fear and coming to terms with his painful reality.
