Stan & Ollie
Director: Jon S. Baird
Actors: Steve Coogan, John C. Reilly, Shirley Henderson
PlotIn the twilight of their careers, the iconic comedy duo of Laurel and Hardy embark on a grueling theater tour across post-war Britain. Despite waning popularity and the physical toll the years have taken, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are determined to reconnect with their fans and rekindle their magic on stage. As they traverse the country, they perform classic sketches to half-empty venues, hopeful their fame will swell once more through word of mouth and sheer perseverance. Off stage, Laurel is the tireless workaholic, always writing and planning their next move, while Hardy's failing health begins to strain both his stamina and their performances.
Amid their attempt to revive their old success, the pair confronts unresolved issues from their past, including past betrayals, the weight of mutual dependence, and their fading relevance in the eyes of the public. The tour's initial lack of success is juxtaposed with the duo's deep bond, which is put to the test as they meet with varied receptions and face the reality of their diminishing stardom. Personal and health challenges threaten to cut the tour short, but their dedication to their craft and each other ignites a spark that starts to captivate audiences once again. Old wounds surface, and the humor that charmed millions proves to be both their solace and their saving grace.
