Henry Poole Is Here
Director: Mark Pellington
Actors: Luke Wilson, Radha Mitchell, George Lopez
PlotHenry, a disillusioned man, returns to the suburban neighborhood where he grew up, intending to spend what he believes are his final days in solitude due to a grim prognosis he’s received. He purchases a rundown house, looking for escape and preferring isolation, but his plans are quickly upended by the intrusion of his lively and inquisitive neighbors. Despite his efforts to remain detached, the community's quirks and unwavering kindness begin to chip away at his cynical outlook on life.
A seemingly mundane event sparks a remarkable shift in the small community's dynamics when a stain on Henry's exterior wall, believed by his neighbor Esperanza to bear the image of Christ, attracts widespread attention. As more people flock to see the phenomenon and share their own interpretations and miracles, Henry is forced into interactions that challenge his skepticism and force him to confront his own despair and isolation. Through these unexpected connections, the story explores themes of faith, healing, and the transformative power of community in the face of personal anguish.
