The Kings of Summer
Director: Jordan Vogt-Roberts
Actors: Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias
PlotThree teenage friends—sensitive Joe, his best friend Patrick, and the odd and eccentric Biaggio—find themselves on the cusp of adulthood, dissatisfied with their lives at home. Joe, who is dealing with the death of his mother and the lack of understanding from his father, hatches a plan to gain independence and escape the overbearing nature of their parents. Fueling their desire for freedom, the trio decides to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land, free from the rules and confines of their normal lives.
As the boys embark on their adventure, they put their friendship to the test. They gather building materials, use their wits to construct a makeshift dwelling, and experience the thrill of independence as they fend for themselves in the wilderness. Their summer of freedom brings both liberating and challenging experiences as they learn more about who they are, what they can become, and what it truly means to be kings of their own domain. But the idyllic escape they envisioned is peppered with comedic and poignant moments that reveal the complexities of growing up and the inevitable reality that confronts all young dreamers.
