PlotAoyama, an exceptionally bright fourth-grader with a scientific mind, is enamored with mysteries and diligent in his studies. His orderly world is disrupted when penguins start appearing inexplicably in his town far from the Antarctic. These strange occurrences drive him to investigate their origins. Teaming up with his classmates, Aoyama meticulously documents his findings, noting a mysterious connection to a young woman who works at his dentist's office. Together, they begin to unravel a series of puzzling phenomena that seem to link the sudden appearance of the penguins to her.
As the investigation deepens, Aoyama’s quest for answers about the penguins leads them into territories where science blurs with the fantastical. The line between his meticulously organized theories and the magic of the unexplained begins to fade. His search compels him to confront theories far beyond his imagination, indicative of the wider universe’s mysteries. Penguin Highway is gorgeously animated with a poignant story but gets convoluted; a fun watch with excellent Shout Factory Blu-ray presentation and extras.
