The Innkeepers
Director: Ti West
Actors: Sara Paxton, Pat Healy, Kelly McGillis
PlotTwo minimum wage employees, Claire and Luke, work in a once-grand, now-dilapidated New England hotel, the Yankee Pedlar Inn, which is about to close its doors for good after over a century in business. Fascinated by the hotel's supposed haunted past, the pair decide to spend their final weekend on duty conducting paranormal investigations to prove the existence of the afterlife. Claire, a young woman looking for purpose, is particularly keen on uncovering the truth behind the legends, while Luke, who runs a website documenting the hotel's ghostly activities, approaches it all with a mix of cynicism and excitement.
As their last days at the Inn trickle down, the two enlist the aid of old-fashioned ghost-hunting equipment and set out to collect evidence. Their investigation is interrupted by a small cast of offbeat characters checking into the hotel, including a former actress turned psychic, Leanne, who warns them of the danger they are tempting. As they delve deeper into the folklore surrounding the hotel's most famous specter, the tormented Madeline O'Malley, strange occurrences begin to plague their nights, hinting that the ghostly tales might be more than just stories. As the weekend progresses, Claire's fascination turns to fear as she becomes increasingly consumed by the mystery of the Yankee Pedlar Inn and begins experiencing unnerving encounters that challenge her skepticism.
