In medieval Europe, the bubonic plague ravages the continent, bringing death and fear among the population. A young monk named Osmund prays for guidance, torn between his devotion to God and his love for a young woman. Seeking a sign, he volunteers to guide a group of mercenaries led by the battle-hardened knight Ulric. Their mission, decreed by the church, is to investigate a remote village rumored to be untouched by the plague. The villagers' supposed immunity is attributed to their rejection of God and the alleged resurrection of their dead by a necromancer. Osmund sees this perilous journey as an opportunity to reunite with his love, who he has instructed to wait for him in the forest.
