One Night in Miami...

Director: Regina King
Actors: Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge
PlotOn the night of February 25, 1964, in Miami, four iconic African American figures—Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali (then still known by his birth name Cassius Clay), Jim Brown, and Sam Cooke—find themselves in a hotel room at the Hampton House Hotel after Ali's surprise victory over Sonny Liston. Initially intended as a simple celebration of the young boxer's win, the gathering unexpectedly transforms into a profound, impassioned discussion about their roles in the civil rights movement and the cultural upheaval of the 1960s.
Each man brings his own perspective, struggles, and fame to the room, creating a dynamic interplay of personalities. Malcolm X serves as the intellectual force and moral compass, urging the others to use their influence for a cause greater than themselves. Clay is on the brink of a major career and personal shift as he grapples with joining the Nation of Islam. Brown contemplates his future beyond his successful but limiting football career, while Cooke wrestles with the balance between commercial success and the responsibility to push the boundaries of racial representation in the music industry. The conversation oscillates between public responsibilities and private aspirations, as they challenge each other on what it means to be a successful black man in a turbulent America.
