Actors: Michael O'Keefe, Karen Allen, Peter Fonda
PlotA young athlete named Danny Stetson leads a seemingly idyllic life until a chance encounter with a charismatic group catches his interest. Drawn in by their leader, Kirklander, Danny quickly becomes immersed in the group’s way of life, much to the concern of his family. The group presents an inviting and alternative lifestyle, emphasizing communal living and spiritual fulfillment. Underneath this attractive veneer, however, lurk more sinister undertones, as the group uses manipulative techniques to control its members. As Danny becomes more entrenched in the group's beliefs, he slowly withdraws from his previous life, causing alarm and desperation within his family.
Danny's once supportive family becomes uneasy as they watch him morph into someone they barely recognize. His parents enlist the help of a deprogrammer named Charles Pratt, who is determined to extract Danny from the group's hold. The process of reclaiming Danny's loyalty is fraught with psychological battlefields, testing the strength and resilience of both Danny’s family and those trying to reach him. As tensions build, the characters grapple with challenging questions of identity, freedom, and influence. The film explores themes of vulnerability and the fine line between autonomy and manipulation, creating a tense narrative that examines how persuasive ideology can dramatically alter an individual's life.
