The Irishman
Director: Martin Scorsese
Actors: Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci
PlotFrank Sheeran, a World War II veteran, finds his life intertwined with the Bufalino crime family when he starts working as a truck driver in 1950s Pennsylvania. His reliability and discretion in "painting houses" – a euphemism for contract killings – quickly earn him a reputation in the underworld. His skills lead him to Russell Bufalino, the head of the Northeastern Pennsylvania crime family. As Frank proves his loyalty and usefulness, Russell takes him under his wing, gradually introducing him to the broader spectrum of organized crime. Their bond deepens, eventually pulling Frank into a life of higher stakes and more significant responsibilities within the mob's operations.
Through his association with Russell, Frank crosses paths with Jimmy Hoffa, the charismatic leader of the Teamsters union, known for his forceful and flamboyant leadership as well as his ties to organized crime. Frank and Hoffa quickly develop a close friendship, with Frank becoming a trusted confidant and enforcer for Hoffa. As the union leader engages in power struggles both within the Teamsters and with external entities, including the Kennedys and rival factions of the mob, Frank stands by Hoffa’s side. The interplay of organized crime, union politics, and historical events of the era form a volatile mix that underscores their alliance, and Frank becomes increasingly entrenched in a world where loyalty is the currency, and betrayal is met with swift and irreversible consequences.
