Only Lovers Left Alive
Director: Jim Jarmusch
Actors: Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska
PlotIn the desolate landscape of a once vibrant city, a reclusive musician, Adam, spends his nights composing melancholic songs that reflect his lassitude and disillusionment with the modern world. As a centuries-old vampire, he has grown weary of human society’s failures and finds solace in the solitude of his derelict house, save for the occasional company of Ian, his human confidant who procures rare instruments and other oddities for him. Adam's ennui is so profound that he considers ending his eternal existence, contemplating a wooden bullet as the means to his demise.
Halfway across the globe, Adam’s lover and fellow vampire, Eve, resides in Tangier's twisting alleyways, absorbing literature in numerous languages to satiate her intellectual cravings. Sensing Adam’s despair, she leaves behind her similarly ageless friend Christopher Marlowe, a vampire who poses as a human playwright, to reunite with Adam in Detroit. Their reunion rekindles their deep and affectionate love, prompting them to resume their nocturnal habits together, such as driving through the deserted streets and reveling in the beauty of nature and art, evading a world they increasingly feel disconnected from. However, their tranquil existence is interrupted by the unexpected arrival of Eve's uncontrollable younger sister, Ava, who brings chaos to their delicate balance, threatening their obscure and meticulous lifestyle.
